Dear host family

My name is Susann and I am 25 years old.

After finishing school in 2003 I studied social affairs. One of the main subjects was childcare. During my 3 years of studies I did 2 internships, 15 months in a orphanage and 3 months traineeship in a youth club. After finishing my studies I worked as a qualified social education worker. My first 6 months I worked for a Kindergarten with kids in the age of 1 to 6 in Leipzig. Since July 2007 I’ve worked in the day nursery of the primary school. At this school I care for 24 children in the age of 7 and 8. After the summer holidays the kids will commence 3rd grade. My employer from primary school is happy with my performance and has allowed me to take a sabbatical year to go to Australia.

In my spare time I enjoy horse riding and exercising, activities such as inline skating, riding my bicycle, swimming, and also dance club in Wickershain. I like handcrafts and playing the trumpet in an orchestra but since moving to Leipzig I practice by myself. I like to spend time with friends and family and take care for the children of friends and relatives.

For a long time I have wanted to go to another country to learn more about a different culture, language, family and day to day life. Now that it is possible to fulfill my dream I am looking forward to working as an au pair in Australia.

I am a courteous, conscientious, cheerful person, I have a lot of experience in childcare andI will be a huge help with your family.

I am looking for a nice family, in which I feel accepted and integrated.

I learnt English for 8 years in school but I want to expand my English in an English speaking environment .

Nur schnell zwei Tipps: in diesem Forum wirst Du überwiegend deutsche Familien treffen, das heißt, dass das Englisch lernen nicht unbedingt der Schwerpunkt sein wird, denn viele suchen extra deshalb ein Au Pair aus Deutschland, damit die Kinder mit einer weiteren Person deutsch sprechen können, vor allem, wenn sie sonst in englischsprachigen Kindergärten und Schulen sind. Klar, es gibt natürlich auch "zweisprachige" Familien, und im Alltagsleben gibt es trotzdem viele Möglichkeiten englisch zu üben.
Und zum anderen: Falls Du im StudiVZ bist, da gibts eine Gruppe mit Namen "Au Pair in Melbourne", da könntest Du dich auch mal informieren, denn es gibt zB Au Pairs, die da nach Nachfogerinnen suchen, wenn sie ihre Familien verlassen. Ansonsten scheint "Au Pair World" eine gute Kontaktmöglichkeit zu sein, falls Du hier also nichts Passendes findest, versuchs doch mal darüber.

I am not quite sure when you will be arriving in Melbourne. We are looking for a native German speaker to help with our 2 boys aged 6 and 8. We are in the process of moving back to Melbourne after living in Duesseldorf for the past 3.5 years. The children both speak German like native speakers, but my husband speaks no German and I can manage, but am not at all fluent. The children are keen to continue with their German so that they may maintain contact with their friends in DD. So, we would want someone who is happy to speak to the children in German , but English to us! We would want someone who can start in about Feb 2010.
