I am a Screendesign Freelancer in Germany and want to apply for a skilled visa (my profession is also listed on the SOL and I would get some points for my age, which is 27). I'd love to move to Australia and work as a Freelancer there. Since you have to proof that you've been employed within your special field of skills I was wondering:

- does "employed" also mean "self employed" (I've been working as a Freelancer for the last 1 1/2 years)? --> If yes, how do I proof that I worked in that special field of skills... and how do I proof that I was self employed? I signed some Freelancer contracts with companies but is that enough?

- I read that I would need 3 years of work experience to apply for the visa. --> Does "employed" also count in an employment that was "only" an internship?

The short answer is that self employment can suffice for General Skilled Migration purposes. Obviously the burden of proof is higher and there is certain documentation which should be provided.

The term "Employed" is defined in the Migration Regulations 1994. Again it is probably best if you want specific advice if you consult with me direct at migration@myaustralianvisa.com as there are several issues including at what skilled level the employment has been at which need to be explored.
